DILPS/M - Digital Image Library Processing System / Media Edition

DILPSM.png

DILPS/M is based on DILPS, a database system which has been implemented since the year 2000 as open source research tool for art historians at the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe (HfG). DILPS/M enhances the DILPS core with extensive multimedia formats including image, text and current video formats, and enables the affiliation to complex database and archiving systems which are capable of storing complex scientific data. Whereas the requirements for a reliable information provider for research and education are defined by the KIT Library - the central library of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) -, the HfG provides its broad experience not only of the systems´ development but rather technological know-how in data harmonization through heterogeneous database systems and scientific research on digital preservation issues of complex digital objects.

Thus DILPS/M applies the principles of the well established eSciDoc-standards (https://www.escidoc.org/) for e-research, which is dedicated to scientific and scholarly communities, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration. Furthermore it incorporates the OAI (Open Archives Initiative) recommendations for low-barrier interoperability and metadata harvesting, in order to simplification of both the ingest process as well as the export for archival storage. DILPS/M is joint with the library catalogues, supporting the libraries Marc-XML E-schema and XMetaDiss, the Europeana extension ESE and DINI-certificated, and was just recently allowed to provide Specified URN signatures of the German Library (http://www.persistent-identifier.de/?link=3352).

DILPS/M offers a well documented and open source programming interface in order to add to the database e-Learning and information systems like MediaWiki-pages, E-Learning platforms like Moodle or additional specified research tools and applications, and will finally be placed as an application of the integrated e-Research infrastructure for web-based scientific work – free for download.
