OASIS Archive - Open Archiving System with Internet Sharing
The Culture2000 project OASIS was one of the first EU projects undertaken at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design under the leadership of the Digital Archives research group. The aim of the project was to create a decentralized search platform for media art. On the one hand, this would allow the user to search the content of databases belonging to the partners involved via a central search interface. On the other, the need to buffer data and metadata in a shared system, which often arises, was circumvented. In order to achieve this, a comprehensive technological middleware was implemented, which routed the search and yielded results accompanied by details of the data’s owner. Aside from technical database questions, conservatory and curatorial issues were also dealt with, in relation to which extensive reports were published on the website.
