BEFORE THE ZKM

Vordemzkm titel.jpg

The archival and exhibition project “BEFORE THE ZKM - Project 99.9% and Art in the Hall“ documents the artistic activities that took place in the Hall A complex between 1986 and 1994, before the ZKM Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, the MNK | Museum für Neue Kunst and the Städtische Galerie moved into the complex in 1997. As such, Project “99,999999999999% EMPTY SPACE in the Hall“ (1988-1989) constitutes a major highlight.
In preparation for an historical exhibition, the wide ranging visual material belonging to the physicist, photographer and artist Jörg Reimann was transferred to a database and processed, such that the material could be passed over to the City of Karlsruhe’s public archive. In addition, working in close cooperation with Mr Reimann and the ZKM, a catalogue of the material and explanatory texts was compiled and a concept for computer-based viewing stations for the digital material developed. This can be experienced at four different interactive stations in the exhibition “BEFORE THE ZKM” (October 2010).
